An NHS service which supports pregnant women and new mothers in Worcestershire is one of the few in the country to be awarded national accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
The perinatal mental health team is a specialist service focused on helping women at risk of developing, or experiencing mental health difficulties during pregnancy and during the year following childbirth.
Following a tough reviewing process, the team recently had the news confirmed they had achieved National Accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, only the second community perinatal team to receive this award.
The accreditation was achieved after the service met the Royal College of Psychiatrists standards for best practice for providing evidence of everything from high quality training standards, policies and procedures, to the best patient standards.
Sian Westaway, Clinical Lead with Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust’s Perinatal team said: “Our accreditation confirms our excellence in all aspects of safe and effective patient care. It’s been a real team effort and we’re delighted to be one of the few community Trusts to meet the standards.”
The award is a welcomed boost for the team and comes at a time when more than two-thirds of adults in the UK (69%) report feeling somewhat or very worried about the effect COVID-19 is having on their life.
